After nearly a decade of partnership, prayer, and steady investment, the Tumutumu community in Kenya has reached a powerful milestone. They have officially graduated from their partnership with 410 Bridge. Graduation is more than an event.It is a moment that marks readiness, resilience, and local leadership stepping fully into the future. For Tumutumu, it represents years of growth that donors like you helped make possible.

When a child is sponsored, the impact reaches far beyond one student. After more than a decade in Kiu Community, we have seen how child sponsorship becomes a catalyst for healthier schools, stronger families, and more resilient communities.Sponsorship does not stand alone. It fuels long-term change.

Seeing real, long-term transformation is the heart of why we do community development. It’s one thing to launch programs or build infrastructure, but it’s entirely another to watch a community continue to grow and thrive on its own after we step back.That’s why we now have a new Kiu case study — to show what sustainable, community-led development looks like when it really works.

I first learned about The 410 Bridge in 2008 when I was a young high school student in a rural village called Ngaamba in eastern Kenya. At the time, my community had already begun partnering with 410 Bridge (from 2007 to 2019), but I didn’t fully understand how this partnership started. What I did see was the transformation.New opportunities were emerging, families were thriving, and hope was growing all around me. I was curious, but as a teenager, I simply attributed the changes to the work of God—which I still believe to this day. Deep down, I dreamed of one day joining 410 Bridge and helping bring this kind of change to others. That dream came true in 2016, when I joined the team as a Community Coordinator in Ngaamba.

Two years ago, our partnership with the Kiu community officially came to an end—but the story didn’t stop there. In fact, it was just the beginning of a new chapter of independence, resilience, and flourishing. When we returned for a recent visit, we were deeply encouraged to see how the seeds planted during our eight-year journey together are continuing to bear fruit.Here are just a few glimpses into the lives of the people who make Kiu such a remarkable place…

A New Year frequently evokes a multitude of emotions, deeply influenced by various reasons based on the season of life one is at. For many, it symbolizes a rejuvenating fresh start—a precious opportunity to release the burdens of the past and embrace the future brimming with hope. This transition evokes excitement, particularly for school-age children returning to the classroom after a long break from school in November and December here in Kenya. While children are thrilled to reunite with their classmates and dive back into the classroom environment, they may also grapple with a sense of déjà vu; the inevitability of returning to homework, assignments, and the pressure of upcoming exams can cast a shadow over their eagerness for new beginnings.

Our partnership with Kiu community started way back in 2009 making it one of the first communities to partner with the 410 Bridge since its inception in Kenya in 2006. At the 410 Bridge, we work through the community leaders who ensure continuity of the community’s development even after graduation. During our partnership journey, we walk alongside indigenous community leaders and church leaders as they mobilize and unify the community to participate in their own development – shifting their perspectives and owning the solutions.

As we look back on this year, we are proud to remember how the community of Kiu, Kenya recently graduated from their partnership with 410 Bridge!

Kiu, Kenya is one of the first communities The 410 Bridge began working in. “Kiu” means “thirsty” in Swahili, and the area is semiarid. When we first began working in Kiu, sustainable clean water was a top priority. The community of Kiu now has access to clean water, allowing the Leadership Council to look at other ways to empower the poor within the community.
