About Ulu
Ulu, whose name means “raised place,” was named after its elevated location along a railway built in the 18th century to transport goods from Kenya’s coast to Nairobi. Originally settled by white settlers and families from the Mukaa and Kilungu areas, Ulu has fertile land and reliable rainfall that support farming, with maize and beans as the primary crops. Many community members also earn livelihoods through brick making, livestock, and small businesses.
Since partnering with 410 Bridge in 2023, Ulu has focused on goals including education support, farming and business training, leadership development, savings group expansion, mentorship programs, fruit tree and seed initiatives, pastoral training, and community economic development.

A hot meal.For years, children at Ulu Primary School faced a daily struggle that many of us take for granted: hunger. Coming to school on an empty stomach made it difficult to focus, learn, and fully engage in their education. Teachers saw students growing weary as the day went on, not because they lacked motivation, but because they lacked nourishment.But today, hope is being served—one plate at a time.
