About Chipila Chiu

Chipila, whose name comes from the Kaqchikel Mayan phrase meaning “wash station by the road,” is a rural Guatemalan community with a rich cultural heritage. Coffee is the primary crop, with some families also growing vegetables. Many women preserve traditional weaving practices by creating clothing and ceremonial garments, while local leaders are recognized for their commitment to serving and strengthening the community.

Chipila has partnered with The 410 Bridge since 2020. The primary language spoken is Spanish, with Kaqchikel heritage reflected in the community’s history. Community priorities include expanding savings groups to strengthen household livelihoods, improving access to healthcare through clinic equipment, supporting children’s education, developing local leadership, and promoting spiritual growth through Bible distribution.
