Ngaamba Central
Location:
3 hour drive southeast of Nairobi in the Sultan Hamud area off the Mombasa Road.
Description:
The Ngaamba community is a semi-arid, hilly area with a population of around 10,000 people. It is made up of many sub-villages, which in 2009 became four separate 410 Bridge communities. This shift to multiple communities allows The 410 Bridge to better serve the specific needs of each. Their top three priorities in 2007 were water, water, and water. They hadn’t seen a harvest in several seasons, and the women and children walked many kilometers every day to fetch water. Over the next few years, The 410 Bridge began to address a distributed water solution. A large-scale water project has been underway in Ngaamba since 2008 and is transforming the area both physically and spiritually. A new borehole was drilled in Ngaamba West in the summer of 2011 and is providing additional access to clean water.
Today, there are no significant medical facilities in this agricultural community and addressing the lack of medical care has become the top priority. We intend to break ground on a medical clinic in 2012 that will serve all of the Ngaamba communities. The clinic facility will reside in Ngaamba Central.
We are currently seeking child sponsorships that will allow us to launch quality education programs in Ngaamba Primary School. We anticipate these programs starting in 2012.
Most of the spiritual influence in Ngaamba comes through the ministry of the local churches. Pastors from these churches make up the Ngaamba Pastor’s fellowship. The leaders from these churches meet on a regular basis to discuss the struggles in their community, and to work together to strategize and cast vision to help meet the needs of their people. These leaders understand why the hearts of their people are dry and hope that the partnership with The 410 Bridge will help change the hearts and attitudes of the community, and fill them with the hope of Christ.
The Rejoice Project is instrumental in the spiritual development of the children. The program was piloted in Ngaamba West and has spread to virtually all the schools in the Ngaamba and Kiu area. The Rejoice Project is organized and implemented by a dedicated group of young volunteers who travel to each school every week to teach biblical values to primary school children
