Joseph Wambua Kiloti – Burn Victim:  $765 (Initial Cost)

Joseph is a 14 year pupil at Ngalalya Primary School in Joska. He was an active and bright child who was to take his national exams (KCPE) in 2010. In the year 2009, while he was in grade seven, Joseph sustained burns from a gas cooker that exploded in their house.

He was rushed to Kangundo District Hospital where he was admitted for 6 months subsequently missing the registration for the national exams. The family has paid that hospital bill with the assistance of community members who gave them funds. Joseph now needs to undergo an initial operation at Kangundo District Hospital. There after depending on the operation outcome, the surgeon will be able to give advice on what else needs to be done to enable Joseph to walk again. Therefore, we expect additional expenses after the initial operation.

Joseph misses classes because of the distance from the house to the school. When in school, Joseph is subjected to taunts by the other pupils thus affecting his studies. The family is not well off and had to depend on friends to raise the initial amount that was required for Joseph’s hospitalization.

The amount of money quoted is for the initial operation. The hospital will give us another bill after the successful completion of the initial operation.
